- Robert Frost (1874 -1963), after two failed attempts for an education, tried to support himself in any possible way - as a teacher and a farmer. Not failing at both, his first poem was not very successfully published in 1894. Frost only became a successful writer under the tutelage of Ezra Pound when he came to England in 1912. Nowadays he is considered one of the greatest American poets.
