William Blake (1757 - 1827) was an English painter, printmaker and poet. His career as an artist started with an apprenticeship as an engraver; later he opened his own printing plant. During his lifetime, Blake published several etchings and poems, but his artistic worth was only fully appreciated after his death. The poem A Divine Image was first published in 1794 in the volume Songs of Experience.
